Bruce J. Bezanson, age 69 of Woburn, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
Born in Lynn on December 20, 1956, Bruce was the son of the late James and Muriel (Steeves) Bezanson.
As a teenager and young adult, Bruce enjoyed fishing and hunting with his father, playing hockey, swimming, ice skating on local ponds and riding his motorcycle. He also loved hiking and especially enjoyed the challenges of hiking Mount Washington and the Appalachian Trail. As a true outdoorsman, he loved working in the yard, planting vegetables and flowers, relaxing on his back deck and watching for meteor showers.
Bruce loved working on cars - building and modifying engines for speed and performance including his Pontiac Firebird, Chevy Chevelle SS and Pontiac GTO. He spent many weekends at the racetrack with his friends, competing to outdo one another.
He also enjoyed working with his hands and held various jobs in the skilled trades until his retirement in 2020. In recent years, he all but perfected the craft of woodworking. In the short time he was able to dedicate himself to this hobby; he created some beautiful pieces that will be cherished by all who received them.
Bruce was deeply devoted to his family, celebrating holidays and special occasions with his wife, children, granddaughters and his former wife, Carol Short, and her husband, Ken. To Bruce, family wasn't defined by titles or labels, but by the bonds of care and shared history. He loved grilling in the summer and would always sneak a piece-"for quality testing." He also enjoyed taking his granddaughters fishing and hosting backyard camping trips.
Since 2022, he attended Genesis Community Church in Woburn. His dedication extended far beyond Sunday mornings, as he willingly gave his time, skills, and effort to the church's ongoing building renovations. On Easter Sunday in 2026, he and his wife, Kelli, chose to publicly affirm their faith through baptism.
In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lee Bezanson.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Karen "Kelli" (Simpkins) Bezanson; daughters, Julie Samson of Lynnfield, Betsy Fife of Peabody, and his son, Brian Bezanson and his wife Colleen of Middleton; his sister, Barbara Cleveland, and her husband Derald of Vallejo, California; grandchildren, Emily and Avery; his niece, Shawna DeMartile, and her husband Jason of Fairfield, California. He is also survived by his uncle, Alan Bezanson and his wife Lise of Canada and numerous cherished cousins.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, August 8 at 11 am at Genesis Community Church, 11 State Street, Woburn, MA 01801 with a reception immediately following. The family requests casual attire and invite guests to wear something blue, Bruce's favorite color.3
